Position Description & Duties
Under the leadership of the Dean, the Associate Dean provides assistance in the administration of the college, including, the colleges' data management system, advising upper division students and accelerated program advising, student research and industry- based projects, support of faculty advisory committees, awarding of student aid, operational planning and annual reporting of student outcomes. The associate dean insures that the college systems are operational, clearly communicated, transparent and effective.
Major Activities: This function finds its incumbent providing a full array of services related to the honors college. By way of illustration and not limitation, this function:
- Develops and implements the annual operational plan for the college
- Coordinates with academic departments and research centers for student research projects
- Leads the development of the Individual Education Plan for ADHC students with academic departments
- Leads the awarding of student aid in coordination with university financial aid office.
- Coordinates office functions.
Responsible for:
- The maintenance and reporting of the college data with Registrar, Institutional Research and Planning and College Colleagues
- The awarding of scholarships with Financial Aid, the academic departments and Asst. Dean for Enrollment Management
- The academic advising of all juniors and seniors with academic departments and serves as the default advisor as well as coordination of academic support services to meet students' needs
- The support of the Faculty Advisory Committee and the Health and Medical Education Committee
- Participating and presenting papers at national meetings and conferences on Honors Colleges Programs and gifted education
- Production of the annual report of student outcomes.
- Coordination of research projects and development of grants and proposals with academic departments and research centers for undergraduate student research.
- Coordination with academic departments, companies and/or Career Development Services, and supervises as necessary, student industry-based professional projects
- Teaming with the Dean and the Assistants to plan and assist with co-curricular activities including freshman retreat, freshman seminar, leadership Colloquia and other programs and alumni events
Qualification Requirements
Masters degree in science, engineering, education or a related discipline is required, doctorate preferred.
Must have a minimum of five years college or university teaching experience and a minimum of three years of educational administration or program management, preferably in an honors program.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
