Position Description & Duties
Western Kentucky University (WKU), University Honors College, invites applicants for a Coordinator, Capstone Advising.  Western Kentucky University is a progressive, contemporary, proactive institution that seeks candidates possessing the same qualities.  The University seeks a creative person to conduct the day-to-day business of working with Honors College students in developing, implementing and completing their Honors Capstone Experience/Thesis projects.  The position works with faculty and students to facilitate undergraduate advising specific to the research and writing of an Honors Capstone Experience/Thesis project. This is a twelve month, full-time position and reports to the Executive Director of the University Honors College.  Anticipated start date is July 1, 2010.

Responsibilities and duties include:
The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.  Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on managerial discretion and institutional needs.

  • Coordinates and provides administration for the Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis (CE/T) program
  • Offers section(s) of the CE/T proposal-writing course
  • Serves as liaison with Office of Scholars Development and Office of Undergraduate Research on research and funding options for Honors College students
  • Assists relevant offices in facilitating workshops and programming in area of responsibility
  • Manages a clearinghouse of research/engagement opportunities for Honors College students
  • Assists with student academic advising related to the CE/T research process

Qualification Requirements

    • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent time management and multitasking skills
    • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
    • Strong computer skills
    • Ability to drive university vehicle
    • Level of comfort with working in a very interdisciplinary academic environment
    Preferred Qualifications
      • Earned Doctorate Degree from an accredited institution
      • Experience with undergraduate research or engaging students beyond the classroom
      • Experience advising related to research at the collegiate level
      • Grant writing experience
      • Completed an undergraduate or graduate thesis project
      • Honors program/college degree/experience or Phi Beta Kappa
