NCHC Publications
NCHC publishes two major journals: Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council (JNCHC) and Honors in Practice (HIP). JNCHC is our journal of ideas; HIP is our journal of practice. In addition, NCHC provides its members with a monthly electronic newsletter and an annual organizational report. Finally, each year NCHC adds to its list of monographs, on topics of interest to the general membership and to specific constituencies.
When they first join NCHC, institutional members receive for free one copy of the NCHC Handbook, one copy of all other NCHC publications
, and a subscription to
The Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council. Once an institution is a member of the NCHC, the institution receives the following items free: annual updates to the Handbook and a copy of new monographs as they are published. Additional copies of NCHC publications may be obtained at cost by calling the NCHC headquarters office at (402) 472-9150,
emailing us, or using the order form below. Please note the difference in cost of NCHC publications for members and non-members. If you use the order form, please fill out all lines in the address section.
JNCHC and HIP
Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council (JNCHC) is a refereed periodical publishing scholarly articles stressing research in and on Honors education. Articles include analyses of trends in teaching methodology, articles on interdisciplinary efforts, discussions of problems common to Honors programs, items on the national higher education agenda, and presentations of emergent issues relevant to Honors education. Two issues are published annually.
Honors in Practice (HIP) accommodates our members’ need and desire for articles about nuts-and-bolts issues, innovative practices in individual Honors programs, and other Honors topics of concern to the membership. HIP publishes practical and descriptive essays, including descriptions of successful Honors courses, suggestions for out-of-class experiences, and administrative issues. The journal is published annually
The submission deadlines for JNCHC are March 1 and September 1 of each year. The submission deadline for HIP is January 1 of each year.
Both journals employ a double-blind review system. There are no minimum or maximum length requirements; the length should be dictated by the topic and its most effective presentation. Documentation is expected in JNCHC but not necessarily in HIP; the documentation style can be whatever is appropriate to the author’s primary discipline or approach (MLA, APA, etc.), but please avoid footnotes. Internal citation to a list of references (bibliography) is preferred; endnotes are acceptable.
Ada Long and Dail Mullins are the editors of both HIP and JNCHC, but the journals have separate, non-overlapping editorial boards that review all submissions.

Peterson's Guide To Honors Programs and Colleges
This guide, created by NCHC, is another addition to the long list of highly respected guides to educational programs published by Peterson's. It presents institutional profiles of Honors programs in both two- and four-year colleges and universities. Included are a number of essays written by Honors program participants, information to assist in evaluating programs, profiles of programs at colleges and universities, and a geographic index. It is also the official guide of the National Collegiate Honors Council. The institutional profiles contain a description of the program; participation requirements; instructions for admission; availability of scholarships; a description of the institution, its campus, student body, and faculty; tuition and fee information; and who to contact for more information. This guide is highly recommended for public, high school, and academic libraries.
